The Human Race
While it could be said that humans are self-explanatory, they are less so in this world. Far from paragons of everything they put their mind to, the human race is famed for it's skill in agriculture and animal husbandry. The first race to settle and live in houses made of stone, it is highly considered that the human race were the first to really come up with the concept of 'home', and it is an invention they are quite proud of. While they are adaptable and varied, the human desire to settle is often a trait unique to their race. Even the wars started by humanity seem to be in effort to expand the reaches of their home - either by force or hope that their conquest would live more like they do.
Origin:
While it is a common joke that humanity were pech that chose to settle down and grew over time, the truth might not be far off. It is clear that humans did not simply spring into existence by the will of a diety or magical chance, nor were they created by a magical source. Their creation was over time, and it is widely accepted that they were not always human. A common theory suggest that they are the result of a genealogical disease in a race of giants, shrinking over time into humans. Another suggests that they are descendents of a great reptilian empire that slowly declined and shed their scales, eventually becoming mammalian. A final contests that humans are the result of a clash (or love, depending on the philosopher) between good and evil forces. Whatever the case, humans seem less interested in the past and more interested on the future. It is commonly accepted that the human race is the origin of Druidism, which many humans refer to as 'the Old Ways', and remains a major part of their world.
Relations:
Humans have been a neutral point between the races, and an individual human can have widely different ideas on the races they share the continent with. Among the races, however, the Foxfolk have been their closest allies, friends, and romantic partners for a great long time in their history. The Foxfolk introduced them to arcane magic, something that many humans love them (and a great many hate them for). On the other hand, the theological Adirel go back and forth between inspiring and terrifying the human race: while the Adriel are responsible for introducing divine magic to the humans, as well as the concept of war. Humans have come into conflict with orcs for most of their existence, but many find the time to respect the orcish ways (sometimes resulting in half-orcs).
Physical Description:
The physical characteristics of humans are as varied as the world's climes. From the dark-skinned tribesmen of the southern continents to the pale and barbaric raiders of the northern lands, humans possess a wide variety of skin colors, body types, and facial features. Generally speaking, humans' skin color assumes a darker hue the closer to the equator they live. At the same time, bone structure, hair color and texture, eye color, and a host of facial and bodily phenotypic characteristics vary immensely from one locale to another. Cheekbones may be high or broad, noses aquiline or flat, and lips full or thin; eyes range wildly in hue, some deep set in their sockets, and others with full epicanthic folds. Appearance is hardly random, of course, and familial, tribal, or national commonalities often allow the knowledgeable to identify a human's place of origin on sight, or at least to hazard a good guess. Humans' origins are also indicated through their traditional styles of bodily decoration, not only in the clothing or jewelry worn, but also in elaborate hairstyles, piercing, tattooing, and even scarification.
