Starsword
Aura Faint psychokinesis; ML 5th; Price 6,000 gp; Slot -- ; Weight 4 lbs.
A starsword is an item and weapon, partially technological, partially psionic in nature. The first starswords were recovered in small numbers from the Silver Mount in Numeria by the Technic's League, though they have trickled to Golarion from other sources as well, and more have been created here, by such Technics as are versed in psionic lore. Rumors also circulate of an esoteric order of warrior mystics, for whom the creation of a starsword is a right of passage of sorts, though wherever they learned this art, it can be sure it was not from the League.
Starswords’ appearance vary greatly, particularly those not found but made. The basic structure resembles the hilt of a sword, at least superficially. Some are very simple in design, little more than a metallic tube with an opening at one end, and a recessed crystal visible through the opening. Others are ornate affairs, resembling the parade or dress weapons of generals and honor guards, with precious metal inlays, finely cut gems, etchings of strange symbols or reliefs of fantastic creatures. Whatever form they take, they always feature a psionically resonant crystal at their heart, and their function remains the same. A starsword has 30 hp and hardness 10.
A starsword grants its wielder the ability to manifest a mindblade. The mind blade emanates from the starsword itself, and always takes the form of a slashing weapon that deals 1d8 points of damage, and deals x2 damage on a critical hit. Most starswords are designed such that they can be wielded either one- or two-handed; some few are made specifically to be wielded one way or the other, but this has no effect on the blade generated. If the wielder has at least 5 ranks in Autohypnosis, the mindblade they manifest is is treated a having one weapon special ability, chosen at the time of the starsword’s creation, from the following list: defending, ghost touch, keen, lucky, mighty cleaving, sundering. Most starswords that feature any decoration at all have some theme or other indication of which of these abilities it bestows.
If the wielder already as the ability to manifest a mindblade, they instead treat their level in whatever class grants the the ability as two levels higher for all purposes pertaining to their mindblade, including the Mind Blade Enhancement class feature, and in addition grants the special ability associated with the starsword, in addition to any special abilities granted by the Mind Blade Enhancement class feature. Even if the character's usual mindblade deals bludgeoning or piercing damage, when manifested through a starsword, it must deal slashing damage; weight (light, one-handed, or two-handed) and associated damage and critical range are unchanged. Only a mindblade manifested through the starsword gains these benefits; if manifesting two more mindblades at a time, each must be manifested through a separate starsword in order to gain the effects.
Creation Requirements:
Craft Wondrous Item, Autohypnosis 5 ranks, Knowledge (Psionics) 5 ranks; Cost 3,000 gp.
