Treasure: Standard.
Special Abilities:
- Hitodama: A bakeneko can use the following spell-like abilities, using it's hit die as it's caster level. The DC of any spells the bakeneko casts is based on their Charisma score.. At Will: Dancing Lights, Disguise Self. 3/day: Produce Flame.
- Menace Sleeper: When adjacent to a sleeping victim, the bakeneko may touch the opponent, dealing 1d4 points of nonlethal damage and causing them to undergo incredible nightmares. The target gains no benefit from rest (does not count the time sleeping as quiet time to prepare spells, nor do they naturally heal). The target is fatigued for the following day unless they succeed at a DC 14 Will save (the save DC is Charisma based).
The catfolk race is notable for producing good people. The free-spirited, kind-hearted folk are legendary for their gentle behavior. It comes as an absolute shock to come across the rare evil member of the race. The violence and cruelty of an evil catfolk can send chills up the spine of many, for the cold detachment to their own evil and smug satisfaction of the deeds they commit. When these villains are slain, some linger on - their faces twist into a rigor mortis grin. Their eyelids recede into their heads, giving them a wide-eyed crazed look. Their body continues to wither, fur clinging to an emaciated corpse. These risen fiends are known as nekomata, and the pale blue flames of their hitodama foretell ruin on those who face their deadly mischief and dangerous games. The insidious creatures use their natural disguise ability to appear to be whatever race they've targeted. Some exist for eons without ever being noticed.
Powerful nekomata go up in class levels, normally rogue or sorcerer.
